SDG13: Climate action

The increasing effects of climate change have resulted in increased armed conflict and gun violence. Resource scarcity, increased disease, natural disasters, and consequential economic declines are all associated with increased conflicts and pushed populations towards armed groups. All around the world we are seeing violence over access to resources and because climate change threatens the basic livelihoods of communities. Gun violence also reduces the capacity of our communities to respond to climate change. It reduces social cohesion, limits the resources of communities, and challenges the democratic political institutions that are necessary to effectively respond to climate change. This places added risk to the most marginalized within communities who are most susceptible to both gun violence and climate change.
